DGT passive samplers are increasingly being used for measuring pesticides. With an HLB binding agent, it has proved to be effective at measuring atrazine, chlorpyrifos, clofibric acid, clothianidin, diazinon, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam. This development (Challis et al, 2016) did not use a membrane filter (see below). Clicking on the link will provide the full reference. Guibal et al, 2017 have successfully used HLB for measuring bentazone, chlorsulfuron and mecoprop. Nine pesticides have been measured using a HLB binding layer and a GHP (hydrophylic polypropylene) membrane (Li, Chen et al, 2019). This device was used in soils to investigate the bioavailability of atrazine and some of its metabolites (Li, Rothwell et al, 2019).
The recommended DGT devices equipped with an HLB binding agent and a GHP filter membrane can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate link below.
For deployments in all types of waters you will need device LSND-AG
For deployment in soilsA you will need device LSLD-AG
The above products are supplied with hydrophylic polypropylene membranes (GHP), which interact negligibly with pesticides. Due to evidence of interaction of some pesticides with the polyethersulphone membrane they used in the DGT device, Challis et al (2016) preferred to use devices without a membrane. Such devices without a membrane can be supplied on request, but we do not recommend them for field deployments as particles can adhere to the exposed diffusive gels.
Glyphosate (N-phosphonomethyl glycine) and its major degradation product, AMPA (aminomethyl phosphonic acid) can be measured using DGT with a titanium dioxide binding layer (Fauvelle et al, 2015).
The recommended DGT devices equipped with a Metsorb TiO2 binding agent, polyacrylamide diffusive gel and polyethersulphone membrane can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate link below.
For deployments in all types of waters you will need device LSNT-NP
For deployment in soilsA you will need device LSLT-NP
Detailed instructions for the use of most DGT passive samplers are available.
AThese soil devices are designed for deployment in homogenised hydrated soil samples.
